2009 Waterfront at Pu'uloa Triathlon

Congratulations to all competitors of the Waterfront at Pu'uloa Triathlon this past Sunday, March 29. The race consisted of a 750 meter swim, 13 mile bike, and 3.6 mile run.

MCCS Surf & Turf 2009

 

It was a beautiful day for running, despite the brisk trades. Almost 150 runners ran the 2009 Surf & Turf 5K on Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.  Thanks to the Marine Corps for holding up the golfers on the Clipper Golf Course while we all ran along the beach.  What a beautiful run.  We've included photos here and feel free to copy for your own use.  Sorry if we missed some or captured anyone in a blurry state!

Sunday Run, March 29, 7:00 a.m.

We're going to keep it simple this weekend and run Lanikai Loop 2x from the store.

Total mileage will be 6 for those opting for one lap and 9 for those opting for two Lanikai laps.

We'll meet at Kalapawai market for coffee afterward!

Note that good store advocate Scott Hubbard posted a run involving Kaneohe and just over 12 miles to us this week, but we couldn't find a 'good-enough' 6-8 mile option within it, so we'll post his run when we know that 60% or more of our Sunday runners are readying for a 1/2 or full marathon.

We appreciate any recommendations for alternate runs. We can run through some neighborhoods that are not always open if we leave earlier and know how many runners we should anticipate. We'll discuss this informally on Sunday and ongoing.

Sunday Run, 3/22/09 - 8 and 13 mile options!

Sometimes it is hard to find new routes in Kailua.....Kailua is endearing for being small and there are only so many roads on which to run!

In the interest of keeping the run mostly flat this week, we'll do more of a classic Kailua 13.2 miler and run from the store through the marsh, over the saddle road onto Kaneohe Bay Drive and back into Kailua and Lanikai before returning to the store.

If you want to do less than 13, you could take off 5 by skipping the saddle road into Kaneohe or the Lanikai Loop.

We'll meet at the store at 7 a.m. and discuss our options. Many of us will grab coffee/food afterwards!

Call the store Saturday if you have any questions or are new and want us to watch for you, 262-3278!

Sunday Run

It's great to be corrected! Update to prior story.

Its great to be corrected when the results we share are better than we knew!

We wrote recently that Scott Hubbard was the top marine runner in the Honolulu Marathon. Wrong. He was the overall winner among all military personnel! Again, Scott's time was 3:12:43!

Somebody didn't have their reading glasses on when she looked at the plaque!!

Another favorite runner of ours, Ron Shriver, was the top marine runner in the marathon. Ron ran an impressive time of 3:33:01.

Congratulations to both on their recognition!

Local runner awarded for marathon excellence

It is always rewarding for us to hear about a runner who gets recognized for a great performance.

Such was the case when local runner Scott Hubbard told us that he was getting awarded for having the best marathon time among all Hawaii military personnel.

Scott didn't just run the marathon, he was 151st overall in a field of over 20,000, he was in the 1% of all male finishers and he was in the top 2% of finishers in his very competitve age category!

Scott was recognized by his commanding officers on Friday, March 13 in special ceremony. Congratulations Scott!

By the way, as is often the case, some of our favorite military runners are called away. Scott and his family will be leaving in May to move to Yuma, AZ, where Scott will oversee operations for three years. He hopes to return to HI soon. If you haven't had a chance to run with Scott and you've got the legs, join us on any Wednesday evening or Sunday morning for our free fun runs. Scott is always a leader and a supporter!

Fleet Feet Favorites Connie Comiso and Craig Knohl awarded MidPac Runners of the Year, again!

Each year the MidPac Road Runner's Club awards the top two participants in its 20-some races special recognition. This year, as in last year, Fleet Feet favorites Connie Comiso and Craig Knohl won Female Runner of the Year and Male Runner of the Year, respectively.

Connie and Craig participate in most if not all of the MPRRC races and as it so happens, they also win their age divisions and/or are among the top overall finishers in the events.

We'd like to recognize Connie and Craig for all they do in the running community and for us at Fleet Feet. They are standouts!

While some chose to stay indoors this past weekend, others shook it off and headed out for the Fort DeRussy Biathlon and Johnny Faerber 10K!

The water was a bit chilly, but they still got out there and gave it their all at the Fort DeRussy Biathlon!

Sunday Run Slated for March 15, 7:00 a.m.

We promised to post the next long run early, and here goes: We'll do 8 or 11 miles of Kailua Hills and residential flats. It will be a good workout with lots of great views and cool morning air.

We'll finish over coffee at Kalapawai Cafe. More details during the week!

Sunday 3/08 Run - We'll run in town, supporting Johnny Faerber 10K!

Recognize this guy? That's Andrew Taylor with wife Malia, who often excels (and wins) at varying distances.

Andrew was last year's winner of the Johnny Faerber 10K, a favorite among many Oahu runners.

We'll be in town supporting Andrew and other Fleet Feet team members and store friends running this event - very early on Sunday.

For those not 'racing' this Sunday, Susan will run a reverse course starting at 5:45 a.m., leaving from the Fleet Feet tent. Our goal is to get done in time to be at the finish line for others. We might continue running after the event, or just get coffee and talk story.

Look for the Fleet Feet tent if you want to join us for any of the above!

There will be no organized long run in Kailua town this weekend. We'll post the long run for Sunday, March 15 within the day!
